Tokyo Engagement & Pre-Wedding Photographer
A pre-wedding session in Tokyo is a chance to tell your story against one of the world's most beautiful cities: shrine gates and kimono, quiet gardens, glowing skyline at dusk. I'm Lester Miyashiro, a WPPI Double Master and ICON finalist, and my English–Japanese team at ILUMINI Photography designs these sessions for couples traveling to Japan. We plan the looks, the locations and the timing. You just show up and enjoy it.

Why ILUMINI for your pre-wedding shoot
- Just show up, truly. Kimono and styling, assistants, location planning and the schedule are coordinated by our team. You won't be searching rental shops or translating instructions the morning of your shoot.
- Bilingual from first message to final gallery. We plan with you in English and handle every Japanese-language detail on the ground.
- Award-recognized images. WPPI Double Master is earned through international, peer-judged print competition. Your photos are crafted to be printed, framed and displayed at your wedding, not just scrolled past.
- Transparent USD pricing. Sessions range from $420 for portrait sessions to $4,200+ for our signature pre-wedding experience, all published on Packages & Prices.

Pre-wedding photo locations in Tokyo
From our base in Hamamatsucho, Minato, we can plan sessions across the city:
- Shrines and temple grounds — the classic setting for kimono portraits.
- Japanese gardens — stone lanterns, bridges and seasonal color.
- Cherry blossom and autumn leaf spots — timed to the season when possible.
- Tokyo Tower and skyline views — iconic city backdrops near our Minato base.
- Historic streets and lantern-lit lanes — old Tokyo character.
- Evening city lights — modern, cinematic portraits after sunset.
Some places restrict professional photography or need advance permission. We'll recommend locations that fit your style and are realistic to photograph, and plan the route so you spend your time in front of the camera, not in transit.

Frequently asked questions
What is a pre-wedding photoshoot?
It's a portrait session for couples before the wedding. Couples use the images for invitations, wedding websites, welcome displays and albums. In Tokyo, many couples include kimono or other traditional attire.
Do we need to bring our own kimono?
No. Kimono and styling coordination is part of our full-service approach. Tell us your preferences and we'll arrange it.
Can we do both kimono and Western outfits?
Yes. Many couples choose a traditional look and a modern look. Multiple outfits and locations are best suited to our longer sessions and signature pre-wedding experience.
When is the best season for a Tokyo pre-wedding shoot?
Spring cherry blossoms and autumn leaves are the most popular and book up first. Every season works beautifully, though, and quieter months can mean fewer crowds. We'll help you choose based on your trip.
How much does a pre-wedding shoot in Tokyo cost?
Our USD pricing ranges from $420 for portrait sessions to $4,200+ for our signature pre-wedding experience. Full details are on Packages & Prices.
We've never had professional photos taken. Is that okay?
Yes — that describes most of our couples. We give simple, friendly direction throughout, so you never have to wonder what to do.
What if it rains?
We plan with weather in mind and will talk through options with you, such as adjusting timing or choosing covered locations. Rain can also create beautiful, moody images.
Do you photograph outside Tokyo?
Our base is Tokyo, but ask us about other locations in Japan and we'll let you know what's possible.
